Making Homemade Baby Food (Korean Style Rice Cereal)

Daniel started on eating solid foods few days ago. I gave him rice cereal (packaged one from Whole Foods) mixed with breast milk since few weeks ago. He seems fine (eats well, poops good, no allergic reaction) with it, so I decided to start on making homemade solid foods two days ago.

Here's a recipe for making baby's very first introducing food "이유식" (a.k.a. homemade rice cereal in Korean style).

Side note:
It is well known that rice is very low risk allergy food. They say you can always use rice for your baby in Korea.

For a VERY first food, you need:
1 spoonful of white rice
+
1 cup of water

1. Wash 1 spoon of white rice until water becomes clear. Soak the rice in the water for +20 minutes (I did this for overnight).

2. Use food blender or mill to grind the rice with 1/4 cup of water until it is grinded VERY fine.

3. Add 3/4 of water + grinded rice into pot.

4. Once it starts to boil, reduce heat to low and stir it for about 7 minutes.

5. Drain it through fine strainer.

6. All done! Time to enjoy! :)

Side note:
It can be stored in refrigerator for 2 days. It also can be freezed about 1~2 weeks. I used ice cube to make the job easier. Next time I make it, I only have to take out one cube of already grinded rice (step 1~2) and add it with 1 cup of water and boil (step 4~5). Makes the job easier! :)

Once baby seem to be fine with the rice cereal, you can mix veggies with it and serve. You can also start mixing meat with it when baby is 6 months old to supplement iron need.
